Abot Hameiri-Created Series Returning with new seasons in Germany, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia and Romania

Power Couple expands to new territories Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Norway

Dori Media Group (DMG), the studio behind such global hits as Losing Alice, Lalola, The New Black, Ciega a Citas and Dumb, has renewed and added new territories for unscripted format Power Couple in numerous global territories, it was announced today by Nadav Palti, CEO & President of Dori Media Group.

Power Couple, which was created by Abot Hameiri, has been renewed in Germany, Romania, Hungary, Croatia and Solvenia for additional seasons. Additionally, the series will be expanding to new territories as its being adapted by Banijay Nordic in Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Norway.

Power Couple, which first debuted in 2014 in Israel on Reshet, has now been sold to over 15 global territories including Brazil, Mexico, India and South Africa. The series follows both celebrity and non-celebrity couples that move into one villa together and compete in a fast-paced series that determines who is the Power Couple!

In Germany, where the hit series is known locally as “Das Sommerhaus der Stars,” it has been renewed for a ninth season on RTL. And in addition to the celebrity version in Germany, RTL will also be producing a spin-off with non-celebrity couples. The spin-off will run on RTL+.

In Hungary, Power Couple has been renewed for an 8th season by RTL and it’s also been renewed for a 5th season in Croatia by RTL. POP TV has signed on for a third season in Slovenia and after a strong debut in Romania, the series is set to return for a second season on Antena.

“We are thrilled that our hit format Power Couple continues to drive large primetime audiences to our network and streaming partners across the world,” says Palti. “The success is so big that Germany is now producing two seasons and we are expanding across the Nordics. This series puts couples to the test and captivates viewers of all ages wanting to see who truly is the Power Couple.”

Power Couple is different from all other reality shows in that its rules and rationale are made up of something we can all experience together with the participants – relationships. Couples participate on Power Couple in order to check and empower their relationship. Not only to test how much they really know about each other, but how much money they are willing to bet on it.

Power Couple is a format about relationships, and all in its mantle has one purpose – to allow each couple to examine his or her relationship. All couples live, some for the first time, in one house, for a long period of time, with other couples and for the first time can see what their relationship looks like in the eyes of other couples and also learn from the other couples around them things about their relationship.

The couples on Power Couple participate in tasks that they cannot prepare for; the tasks do not measure physical ability or knowledge. The relationship is the basis of any task that examines different aspects of the relationship. In order to win, they need to function together in the relationship, work as a team, and know each other.

Earlier this year, Dori Media announced it was selling both the new Spanish-language episodes of Lalola, which debuted in February on ViX, as well as the series’ format rights to global territories outside of Latin America and the U.S. Lalola, which is produced by Dori Media International, is a modern-day remake of the hit International Emmy-nominated romantic comedy that originally aired in 2008-2009.

Critically Acclaimed Remake of International Emmy-nominated Series Makes Big Splash with Debut on ViX, Its First Original Comedy Series

Dori Media Group (DMG), the studio behind such global hits as Losing Alice, The New Black, Ciega a Citas, Rebelde Way and Dumb, is launching international sales outside the U.S. and Latin America of ViX Original romantic comedy Lalola, which successfully premiered on the platform last month, it was announced today by Nadav Palti, CEO & President of Dori Media Group.

Dori Media is selling both the new Spanish-language episodes of Lalola, which debuted February 2 on ViX, the first large-scale streaming service to exclusively serve the Spanish-speaking world, as well as the format rights to the international TV marketplace.

Lalola, which is produced by Dori Media International, is a modern-day remake of the hit International Emmy-nominated romantic comedy that originally aired in 2008-2009. Dori Media International Chief Content Officer Joshua Mintz and Ana Celia Urquidi are the show’s producers, while Francisco Franco Alba and Ana Lorena Pérez Ríos directed the series.

“The highly anticipated return of ‘Lalola’ has been met with open arms by both critics and ViX’s audience alike,” says Dori’s Palti. “Our new modern take on this beloved romantic comedy series is clearly resonating and we are now excited to offer these original Spanish-language episodes, as well as the format rights, to the rest of the international TV marketplace.”

“This is Dori Media International’s first production in Mexico, and we are all very proud of the result and ‘Lalola’s’ proven potential for the international market,” says Dori’s Mintz. “We are thrilled with the amazing reception that the series has received, which is a testament to our great IP and a successful adaption and production.”

Lalola tells the story of how a successful man, who thinks he can use women to satisfy his ego, wakes up one day in the body of a woman, then seeks to reverse this and return to his original body while trying to protect his job and relationships with his daughter, mother, and best friend. In this new reality, Lalola will suffer the consequences of machismo and must re-learn everything, from walking to navigating her way to work and, above all, the true meaning of love.

Lalola also features Carmen Madrid, Pamela Almanza, Majo Pérez, Chirstopher Aguilasocho, Alfonso Borbolla, Epy Velez, Lumi Cavazos and Francisca Aronsson.

Late last year, Dori Media began international sales for two of its big new action-drama series, Amia and Indal. Amia, which was filmed in Uruguay, was inspired by the terror attacks of 1992 on the Israeli embassy and 1994 against the Argentinian Jewish community. Indal is an action-packed series that follows the kidnapping of a police officer by a group of Ethiopian Israeli youth.

‘Ömer’ drama consistently ranks number one in the ratings,

surpassing Star’s average share by more than double. The adaptation will return with Season 2 this Autumn.

After Dori Media Group (DMG) signed the remake right license with OGM Pictures for award-winning treatment and Israeli-drama, ‘Shtisel’, the story has received even more success with Turkish adaptation ‘Ömer’. Season 1, consisting of 21 2-hours episodes, surpassed Star’s average share double and persistently received the top spot in the ratings.

Produced by OGM Pictures Turkey, (“Another self?”, “My Home My Destiny”, “Golden Boy”), ‘Ömer’ brings a refreshing twist to conventional love story narratives, elevating them to an essential and captivating prime-time experience. The Turkish remake is directed by Cem Karci, 6-time nominee and 2013 winner of Pantene Golden Butterfly Award for Best Director for TV drama, ‘Karadayi’.

‘Ömer’ moves the basic plot of ‘Shtisel’ to a world of Muslims who have preserved its culture for thousands of years with its magical and mysterious ways, unique to any other culture. The series follows Ömer Ademoglu (played by Selahattin Pasali) a muezzin in the mosque where his father, Resat (played by Baris Falay), works as an imam. As Ömer’s life turns upside down he meets single mother, Gamze (played by Gokce Bahadir) and together they navigate the tests of family, tradition, and love.

Season 1 was a great success, with ratings that have steadily climbed since the pilot. Starting at around 4.46% in early January, the share had risen to an impressive 14.81% by the end of February. The cumulative popularity motivated shares and rankings, achieving the top position from late February. This remarkable achievement reflects the program’s increasing appeal and status as the most-watched show during that period.

Its AB commercial demo has attracted particular attention. When examining specific audience segments like AB SES and 20+ABC1, ‘Ömer’ consistently outperformed the overall ratings and shares. Both OGM and Dori Media anticipated the strong resonance with these target audience groups. As Nadav Palti, CEO & President of DMG, said before the show aired, “a format like this just goes to show how audiences from all backgrounds, be they Muslim or Jewish, or anyone else for that matter, can relate to the same family values and often fraught dynamics, significance of tradition, ceremony of food, etc., portrayed in ‘Shitsel’.”.

‘Shtisel’, produced by Abot Hameiri (a Fremantle company) and Dikla Barkai for YES, was created and written by Ori Elon and Yehonatan Indursky. The international hit drama, carried on Netflix in the US, has captured imaginations worldwide since 2013, with the first season winning 11 awards at the Israeli TV Awards 2013.

OGM Pictures is due to release the next season of ‘Ömer’ this September 2023.

Nadav Palti, CEO & President of Dori Media Group, said: ‘Since the first episode was released, ‘Omer’ has continued to the gain undeniable momentum and audience appreciation born with ‘Shtisel’. We are honored that such an excellent Turkish production company has placed our internationally acclaimed treatment in harmony with Muslim culture and traditions. The success of the first series of ‘Ömer’ is a testament to the universality of themes explored in romantic dramas in particular. It is clear that dramas remain primetime viewing for audiences across the world. We are excited to see this international triumph continue.’

Onur Guvenatam, Founder of OGM Pictures, Turkey, said: “We are thrilled with the overwhelming success of ‘Ömer’ and its resonance with the Turkish audience. Adapting ‘Shtisel’ and exploring the rich cultural heritage with its magical and mysterious elements has created a fascinating and unique viewing experience. We are proud to have brought this internationally acclaimed format to the Turkish audience and look forward to continuing the triumph of ‘Ömer’ in the upcoming episodes.”

The series is being produced by Dori Media with Yair Dori Holdings Ltd and production services company, Cimmaron Cine. The eight 40-45-minute-episodes are 12 weeks into production, with a plan to then move the shoot to Argentina.

‘Amia’ will air for the first time in February to March 2024 on Reshet 13, an Israeli free-to-air television channel and be distributed exclusively by Dori Media International.

Based on an original idea from Nadav Palti and Yair Dori, ‘Amia’ is inspired by the terror attacks in 1992 and 1994 in Buenos Aires against the Israeli embassy and the Jewish community, from which the series coined its name.

Created by Givon Snir and Shuky Gur, the series follows Diego, a Mossad agent whose sister was killed in the Argentina terrorist attack. Diego takes a leave of absence and partners with Gisela, a local Argentinean journalist to find those responsible. Their journey to uncover the truth draws them into a world of espionage, intelligence agencies and arms dealers. A dubious world in which lies are truths, and justice and revenge become indistinguishable. The journey that the two embark on will eventually lead to a re-examination of their connection with their families and even their concept of self-identity.

The main language of the series is Spanish combined with additional languages: English, Hebrew and Persian.

The director, Guillermo Rocamora, previously worked on award-winning dramas based in his native country, Uruguay. Titles include ‘Solo’, 2013 winner of the Miami Film Festival Ibero-American Opera Prima Award and short film, ‘Buen Viaje’, featured at Cannes Film Festival and Bilbao International Festival in 2008.

‘Amia’ is written by head screen writer, Izhar Harlev. Izhar has previously written ‘The Gordin Cell’, Israeli psychological thriller, which was nominated for Best Script in a Drama Series in the Awards of the Israeli Television Academy.

The cast includes actors from Israel, Argentina and Uruguay including Israeli actor Michael Aloni, who plays Diego, and is known for the successful Dori Media series, ‘Shtisel’ (2013-2021) amongst other reputable productions. Journalist, Gisela, is played by Malena Sánchez, Argentinian actress known for ‘El Encargado’ (2022), Tuya (2015), De Martes a Martes (2012). ‘Amia’ will also star the accomplished Alfonso Tort, César Bordón and Jameel Khoury.

Nadav Palti, CEO & President of Dori Media Group, said: The attack on the Israeli embassy in Argentina is a defining moment in many lives and greatly impacted a nation both politically and socially. It is imperative that this story be told, and Dori Media is proud to create and share the high-quality “Hollywood” production. Returning to where AMIA happened has brought the story to life with companies, creators, and actors from around the world including Israel, Argentina and Uruguay. We are extremely excited to produce and distribute this to an international audience once it has aired in Spring 2024. I would like to formally thank Yair Dori for engaging so positively with Dori Media.

Givon Snir, Head of Content, Dori Media International, said: While researching the AMIA story I realized that no matter how deep you dig, you can’t figure out who are the good guys and who are the bad ones. You can’t figure out who is telling the truth and who is lying. And this is what I think the audience will feel when watching this action-packed and full of twists series.

Dori Media Group (DMG) has signed a remake rights license agreement with renowned Turkish production company, OGM Pictures, for the 45-minute-episode Israeli drama, ‘Shtisel’. OGM Pictures one of the leading production companies in Turkey (“Mi Otro Yo”, “My Home My Destiny”, “Golden Boy”), plans to produce at least 20 x episodes in the 1st season of the Turkish adaptation of ‘Shtisel’ for Star TV.

Shtisel’, produced by Abot Hameiri (a Fremantle company) for YES, was created and written by Ori Elon and Yehonatan Indursky. The international hit series has captured imaginations worldwide since 2013, with its rare glimpse into a secret world with its own rules and culture. The drama takes place in the world of ultra-Orthodox Jews who have preserved their culture for 5000 years with its magical, mysterious, and wise ways, unique to any other culture.

In a small apartment, on the 4th floor of a building with no elevator, with a porch overlooking the vibrant main street of the ‘Mea Shearim’ ultra-Orthodox neighbourhood, lives Akiva, a bachelor Haredi (ultra-Orthodox) with a poetic soul, along with his ageing father. They have become sort of roommates, sharing a cynical humour and much loneliness. Akiva is a shy yeshiva (Jewish religious educational institution) boy, whom we follow along with his closely-knit, argumentative family.

Just as the family is trying to marry him off, Akiva meets an older widow, Elisheva (acclaimed actress, Ayelet Zurer), living with her ten-year-old son, while Akiva’s widowed father Shulam has a little fling of his own.

We delve into the lives of the extended Shtisel family, a warm and broken Haredi family, integrated in the grand, desperate love story of Akiva and Elisheva. To top it all off, Akiva’s sister’s husband elopes to Argentina, while their grandmother goes into a municipal nursing home, discovering Latin American soap operas and a lot more besides…

Forget everything you thought you know about Haredi (ultra-Orthodox) life and prepare to be charmed.

Season One of ‘Shtisel’ won 11 awards at the Israeli TV Awards 2013, including Best Drama Series, Best Actor, and Best Script, while Season Two won six awards in the Israeli TV Awards 2015, including Best Actor and Best Actress.

In 2013, ‘Shtisel’ was the second most viewed Israeli drama on Yes Home channels and the most viewed on Yes Walla.

A third season aired in 2021, and ‘Shtisel’ has also been sold to Netflix in the USA, France, and Sweden.

Nadav Palti, CEO & President of Dori Media Group, said “For such an excellent Turkish production company to choose a format like this just goes to show how audiences from all backgrounds, be they Muslim or Jewish, or anyone else for that matter, can relate to the same family values and often fraught dynamics, significance of tradition, ceremony of food, etc., portrayed in ‘Shitsel’. At Dori Media, we believe that this universal appeal has been the driving force behind the huge success of this sensitive, compelling drama and we are extremely excited about this next step involving OGM Pictures in Turkey.”

Onur Guvenatam, Founder of OGM Pictures, Turkey, said: “As OGM Pictures, we are so pleased and honored to introduce Ömer, the Turkish adaptation of the world-famous drama series “Shtisel,” to our audience. Shtisel is a very unique format that can be adapted to almost every culture and religion. So we are very excited to present “Ömer” in harmony with our culture and traditions. We believe our audience will also enjoy watching these cultural and religious practices and their effects on our characters and relationships that are so familiar to us.”

Dikla Barkai, Shtisel Producer, Head of Drama Abot Hameiri, said: “We are very excited to see Shtisel adapted into a Turkish drama series. From the little we have seen so far, trailer only, it was possible to distinguish quite a few similar elements. It is amazing that an Israeli series that tells a story about an ultra-Orthodox family in the ultra-orthodox world of ‘Mea Shearim’ in Jerusalem, looks so similar even when it is adapted into a drama series about Muslims in Turkey. It only emphasizes the strong human element in the series, which ultimately transcends religion and social affiliation. Eventually, we are all the same.
