Arabic versions of the two formats, originally created by Studio Glam, have been commissioned for a weekly primetime slot on Abu Dhabi TV and ADtv application in the Middle East and North Africa
Dori Media Group (DMG) has signed an agreement with the United Arab Emirates’ Abu Dhabi Media (ADM), the UAE’s leading public service broadcaster and media company, to create Arabic versions of two unscripted Studio Glam-created formats, ‘The Selfie Challenge’ and ‘Win the Crowd’. Abu Dhabi Media has ordered 15 episodes of each format adaptation for its flagship channel, Abu Dhabi TV, and the ADtv app.
Nadav Palti, CEO & President of Dori Media Group, commented: “We are confident these two unique formats by Studio Glam will be successful, especially among young adult audiences. We are very excited about this new relationship with Abu Dhabi Media and we look forward to introducing more content to the UAE market in the near future. The introduction of Dori Media’s formats on Abu Dhabi TV provides us with an opportunity to showcase our ability to build a strong position in this market, and marks a huge leap forward in the Group’s international ambitions in the region.
“This new collaboration highlights the breadth and depth of the Dori Media slate. It is also a testament to the success of our truly diversified production portfolio, that is seeing great reception not only domestically but in global markets as well.”
Haitham Al Kathiri, Acting Executive Director – TV, Abu Dhabi Media, added: “We are committed to blending global expertise and local insights to create enriching and unmissable programmes for our loyal viewers, as evidenced by securing Arabic rights to ‘The Selfie Challenge’ and ‘Win the Crowd’. This milestone agreement reinforces Abu Dhabi TV network’s ongoing strategy to expand our partner pool and target a wide base of regional and international audiences through the provision of unique and compelling content that is entertaining, informative and engaging.
“We are excited to work with Dori Media’s Unscripted Formats in the first Arabic versions of the two unique and pioneering shows, and ensure they will be a must-watch across broadcast and digital channels,” added Al Kathiri.
Ilan V. Glam, CEO & Head of Business Development of Studio Glam, comments: “We are delighted to be collaborating once again with Dori Media Group (DMG) on two of our innovative formats. Both shows are contemporary and incorporate the best qualities of reality and game show formats. It has been said that television speaks the universal language, these two shows are an excellent example of that, and networks from around the world will find the shows very flexible and easily replicable.“
‘The Selfie Challenge’ is an innovative contemporary, dynamic reality game show filmed around the world that draws inspiration from the cross-culture selfie phenomenon through a competition. Two groups of three friends must swiftly replicate selfies they receive. The competition has five rounds which become progressively tougher, more complex and daring. Success in this challenge depends on improvisation skills and creativity, and daring street selfies will often involve complete strangers. The Arabic version of ‘The Selfie Challenge’ will be produced by Highways Arabia and is slated to air at the end of 2021.
‘Win the Crowd’ is a talent competition series where the street is the stage and the public is the audience. There are no votes and no judges, all they have to do is to win the crowd. Artists of a variety of art forms are invited to perform on a busy corner, covered by hidden cameras. Each performer has 7 minutes to attract as many viewers as possible. For every person that stops to watch, they score one point. The performer who has the largest crowd will win a cash prize. The Arabic version of “Win The Crowd” will air at the start of 2022, with the production company soon to be announced.
Abu Dhabi TV offers viewers popular shows focused on lifestyle, celebrities, influencers, talk, sports and family programming. Long-established viewer favourites include Zahrat Al Khaleej, Hatha Ana, Repeat After Me, and Oloom Al Dar. The channel attracts a wide regional audience through award-winning drama output, and Arabic and international movies aired on weekend evenings.
