Dori Media Group (“DMG”, “the Company”) announces that it has signed an agreement with Underground Producciones and Medios Públicos, for the 2nd Season of the Martin Fierro and Grand Prix of Series Mania Awards winning crime drama ‘El Marginal’. The series is a co-production of Underground Producciones and Medios Públicos, with exclusive worldwide distribution by Dori Media Group.
The deal follows a huge success of the Season 1 in the US, France, Latin America, the UK, Spain, Portugal, Poland and Israel. “El Marginal” season 1 premiered on TV Publica in Argentina in June 2016, where it has gone on to more than triple its timeslot ratings on the channel. The crime drama has won three major awards at the most prominent award ceremony for Argentine radio and television, 2017 Martin Fierro, including Golden Award, Best Weekly Series & Best Scriptwriters. It was also awarded with Séries Mania Festival Grand Prix for the international competition for TV series and 13 awards at the Tato Awards. In addition, El Marginal was included in The Wit’s “Fresh TV” list, and was also nominated for the Platino Awards as the Best Ibero-American Series.
A pre-quell of 8 episodes, the second season will see most of the cast from the first season back on the stage, and is set to focus on the three years preceding the season 1. The Borges brothers enter the prison and are involved in a war of power with Sapo, a bloodthirsty prisoner who governs San Onofre’s jail. An alliance with Patricio, a doctor locked up for a crime he had not committed, is a difference between life and death.
Michal Nashiv, CEO of Dori Media Contenidos, commented: “We are excited to see the continuing alliance with Underground and Medios Públicos. The launch of the season 2 of ‘El Marginal’ is an important milestone for Dori Media, and we are happy that the great potential of the crime drama was recognised. We believe that its high production standards and international appeal will see further success around the Globe, as the audience want to know the story behind the events in the first season. ‘El Marginal’ has had two remarkably successful years, and we fully expect the ratings success to be replicated across the Globe as our international partners will chose to stream the crime drama’s pre-quell”.
Gonzalo Armendares, CEO of Underground Producciones commented: “We are really happy and grateful that Public Content have been confident in this new season of the program that takes form as a pre-quell where we will unveil the past paths of our characters who achieved such affinity with the public. We hope that with Dori Media’s distribution support internationally, we will overcome the success that our first season has achieved, and that our contents will explore new territories”.
Gabriela Ricardes. Secretary of Public Content of Medios Públicos commented: “We are proud to present this second season of El Marginal, on Argentine public television. We work to promote quality public content for Argentines and we do it in strategic alliances with other partners to also irradiate Argentine talent to the world. We believe that the audio-visual sector has enormous growth potential”
